The County Highway Department is responsible for design, construction, inspection, and repair of county roads and bridges.  They administer the design and construction of most township bridges.  They are responsible for maintenance and recommendations for acquisition of all heavy equipment and for all highway building maintenance. They are hired by some township and cities for road maintenance services.  They also house the County Geographic Information Systems (GIS) function.
