The McLeod County Parks Superintendent is responsible for overseeing the operations of all the county parks.

McLeod County has six County Parks totaling 571 acres. Two parks are regional facilities which allow overnight camping. The other four parks are day parks. The six County parks officially open May 1st and close October 1st with the hours of 7:00 a.m. to sunset each day.

The McLeod County Parks will be officially closed for the season on Monday, October 3, 2016
Gates will be closed, but anyone wanting to hike or walk through the area parks is welcome.
The following parks will be closed: Buffalo Creek Park (Glencoe), Swan Lake Park (Silver Lake), William May Park (Winsted), Stahl's Lake Park (Hutchinson), Lake Marion Regional Park (Brownton), and Piepenburg Regional Park (Hutchinson).
The tentative opening of the parks in the spring will be May 1, 2017.

McLeod County is home to two Regional Parks:

Both of these County Parks offer:

♦  Fishing piers

♦  Boat access

♦  Beach

♦  Picnic shelters


Park Caretaker:

  • Piepenburg Park: 320-587-2082   Caretaker: Wesley & Kathy Peters

  • Lake Marion Park: 320-328-4479   Caretaker: Patricia Carey & Larry Cramb


 The four day parks are:

  • Stahl's Lake Park, located five miles northwest of Hutchinson on 230th Street

  • Swan Lake Park, located three miles northwest of Silver Lake on Swan Lake Road

  • Wm. May Park, located two miles southeast of Winsted on Zion Avenue

  • Buffalo Creek Park, located three miles east of Glencoe on County Road 1


These parks all offer open space activities, trails and a picnic shelter.

at: 320-484-4334 and an office support person will assist you.

The fee to reserve a picnic shelter is $35.00 (includes tax)
