The McLeod County Jail is a 35-bed licensed Class III jail and is goverened by Minnesota Department of Corrections standards as a secure detention facility used to confine both sentenced and pre-sentenced prisoners. The McLeod County Jail opened its doors in 1982 on the second floor of the Law Enforcement Addition which also houses the Sheriff's Office and 911 Dispatch Center.
The task of supervising the operation of the Jail is the responsibility of Jail Administrator Kate Jones. The Jail Administrator is assisted in this by the Jail Programmer, four Sergeants and 11 fulltime corrections staff. Correctional Officers are primarily responsible for the safety and security of the jail facility, the inmates and the officers. Food service is provided by private contractor and Inmate Health Care is provided through the McLeod County Public Health Department.
