Financial Assistance

Financial assistance provides support to low income residents of McLeod County.  We determine eligibility for public assistance programs such as Medical Assistance, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (formerly known as Food Support), General Assistance, and the Minnesota Family Investment Program.   To be eligible for these services, you must meet the specific program guidelines and be within the monthly income and asset limits.  To see if you may qualify for a service, you can complete the Eligibility Screening Tool.  Click here for information on How to Apply for Financial Assistance in McLeod County.

What do you need to know about MNSure?
MNsure is the new health care marketplace for Minnesotans.  
How does MNsure affect me and how do I apply? 
  • If you are currently receiving Medical Assistance, you will receive a notice in the mail beginning with April 2014 renewals explaining what steps you need to take.  Renewals prior to April 2014 will not be affected until 2015.    

  • If you are NOT receiving Medical Assistance, you can apply online at    

  • If you are not receiving Medical Assistance and have questions about MNSure or need help applying, call the State MNsure Contact Center at 1-855-3-MNsure (1-855-366-7873)   

  • You can complete a paper health care application in person or via mail in the county that you live in.

Most families will see an increase in the maximum income limits!

ApplyMN is Minnesota's secure, online system you can use to apply for cash assistance, SNAP (food support), emergency help, and child care assistance programs.

To get started, visit Minnesota Human Services Online to use an online pre-screening tool to find out if you might qualify for benefits and to register for a user ID and password.

If you already have a user ID and password, you can log on to ApplyMN directly.
