Road Construction



The following is a brief summary of the anticipated major Road Projects for the 2019 construction season.  More specific information will be added throughout the construction season as it becomes available.

CSAH 3 Reconstruction
Start of Construction: June, 2018        Open to Traffic: Fall, 2019
 
Contractor: Mathiowetz Construction of Sleepy Eye, MN
 
This project includes the removal of existing pavement, subsurface soils corrections, road widening, horizontal and vertical curve adjustments, and new pavement on CSAH 3 from CSAH 1 to Carver County.  During construction the road will be closed to all thru traffic, but access will be maintained for individuals living along or doing business along the road.  The project will be funded using a combination of State Aid and Local funds.
 
July 12, 2019 Update:  Concrete paving has completed on CSAH 3. Asphalt paving on driveways and cross-streets and shouldering has completed. Ditch reshaping/seeding and pavement markings will be completed over the next couple weeks.
 
 
CSAH 15 Reconstruction
Start of Construction: June, 2018       Open to Traffic: Fall, 2019
 
Contractor: Mathiowetz Construction of Sleepy Eye, MN
 
This project includes the removal of existing pavement, subsurface soils corrections, road widening, horizontal and vertical curve adjustments, and new pavement on CSAH 15 from CSAH 22 to Trunk Highway 7.  During construction the road will be closed to all thru traffic, but access will be maintained for individuals living along or doing business along the road.  The project will be funded using a combination of State Aid and Local funds.
  
July 12, 2019 Update:  Concrete paving has completed on CSAH 15. Asphalt paving on driveways and cross-streets and shouldering has completed. Ditch reshaping/seeding and pavement markings will be completed over the next couple weeks
 

CSAH 15 Mill and Concrete Overlay
Start of Construction: May, 2019       Open to Traffic: Fall, 2019
 
Contractor: Mathiowetz Construction of Sleepy Eye, MN
 
This project includes the milling the top few inches of the existing pavement surface and new concrete pavement surface on CSAH 15 from CSAH 3 to CSAH 22.  During construction the road will be closed to all thru traffic, but access will be maintained for individuals living along or doing business along the road.  The project will be funded using a combination of State Aid and Local funds.
  
July 12, 2019 Update:  This project has completed construction and is now open to public traffic. New signs will be installed in mid-July.


Dakota Trail Paving
Start of Construction: Summer, 2018      Open to Traffic: Summer, 2019
 
Contractor: Structural Specialties of Hutchinson, MN
 
This project includes removal of a portion of the existing rail bed material and paving from CSAH 1 in Lester Prairie to Carver County.  The project will also include the construction of a parking lot and trail head near Central Park in Lester Prairie as well as a new bridge over Otter Creek.  The trail will be closed to recreational traffic during construction.  The project will be primarily funded through a state Legacy Grant.
 
July 16, 2019 Update:  All construction activity on the Dakota Rail Trail has completed. The trail is now open to the public for regular use.


CSAH 15 (Morningside Ave) Reconstruction
Start of Construction: May, 2020       Open to Traffic: Fall, 2021         Final concrete paving will take place in 2021
 
Contractor: Anticipated Bid Date - Possible Fall 2019
 
This project includes the removal of existing pavement, subsurface soils corrections, horizontal and vertical curve adjustments, installation of a new railroad crossing, construction of a new roundabout at 16th Street and new concrete pavement on CSAH 15 from 11th Street to 16th Street in Glencoe.  During construction the road will be closed to all thru traffic, but access will be maintained for individuals living along or doing business along the road.  The project will be funded using a combination of State Bonding, State Aid, local Municipal and County funds.


CSAH 8 Reclamation and Paving
Start of Construction: August, 2019        Open to Traffic: Fall, 2019
 
Contractor: Knife River Corp. - North Central of Sauk Rapids, MN
 
This project includes the full-depth reclamation of the existing pavement and gravel base, new gravel base with stabilization, and new pavement on CSAH 8 from Renville County to the end of the asphalt section west of Vale Ave. During construction the road will be closed to all thru traffic, but access will be maintained for individuals living along or doing business along the road. The project will be funded using a combination of Federal Aid and State Aid funds. This project will be tied to Renville County's reclamation and paving project on Renville CSAH 20 and Renville CSAH 36.
 
July 12, 2019 Update:  The Contract has been awarded to Knife River. Construction is expected to begin in mid-August.

 
2019 Seal Coat
Start of Construction: July, 2019                   Open to Traffic: No Closure
 
Contractor: Asphalt Preservation Company of Detroit Lakes, MN
 
The 2019 Seal Coat contract includes approximately 32 miles of pavement county-wide. Seal coat roads include CSAH 1, CSAH 7, CSAH 12, CSAH 18, CSAH 31, CR 60, CR 66 and Babcock Ave.  The project will be paid for using Local funds.
 
May 13, 2019 Update:  Project is anticipated to begin the week of July 29th. Future updates will be posted.


Centerline Tiling Project
Start of Construction: July, 2019                   Open to Traffic: Summer, 2019
 
Contractor: Traxler Construction of Le Center, MN
 
The Centerline Tiling project consists of installing centerline drain tile on selected county roads. Also included in this project will be full-depth reclamation of 1 mile of existing asphalt pavement and gravel base. Centerline tiling will be installed on CR 60, CR 79 and CR 93. Centerline tiling and full-depth reclamation will be completed on CR 63. During construction the road will be closed to all thru traffic, but access will be maintained for individuals living along or doing business along the roadways. Construction is expected to last about 3 weeks total. The project will be funded using Local funds.
 
June 13, 2019 Update:  Project is anticipated to begin after the July 4th holiday week. CR 63 reclamation and tiling has been removed from this contract. Future updates will be posted.


HSIP 6" Edgeline
Start of Construction: July, 2019                   Open to Traffic: No Closure
 
Contractor: Traffic Marking Services of Maple Lake, MN
 
The HSIP 6" Edgeline project is a pavement marking project that includes 6" wide edge line striping on approximately 78 miles of roadways county-wide. This project is funded mainly through the Highway Safety Improvement Program. The remainder of the project will be paid for using Local funds.
 
April 29, 2019 Update:  Project is anticipated to begin in July. Future updates will be posted.
