PREA - Sexual Abuse / Harassment Policy

The “Prison Rape Elimination Act” of 2003 (PREA) is a Federal Mandate that prohibits and seeks to eliminate sexual abuse and harassment in correctional institutions.

The McLeod County Jail has zero tolerance with regard to sexual abuse and sexual harassment in this facility.  We will take appropriate affirmative measures to protect all inmates from and promptly and thoroughly investigate all allegations of sexual abuse and harassment.

Inmates and/or friend or family members may report incidents of suspected sexual harassment and abuse anonymously, in person, through written inmate communication or the Sheriff’s Office Confidential line 320-864-4524.

False reporting of a sexual abuse incident is a crime and can be punished under the law."
